I was browsing through the news in my cocoon of apparent security when I came across this:
http://in.news.yahoo.com/dad-kills-8-yr-old-daughter-after-failed-rape-attempt-.html
The word 'pathetic' was imprinted across my brain, in bold.
This is not the first time something like this has sprung up, and won't be the last; until we, at the individual level work out what's best for the so-called society.
Let's face it. Ours is a country with a male dominated society (still) and women are looked down upon in many parts of this country. Males wield the big stick here, figuratively and literally. So, it is up to them to make an effort to make the fairer sex feel more secure. In stead, the news proves this theory as non-existent almost everyday. When tiny voices try to be heard over the noise, they are stifled; and the number of people following "Satyameva Jayate" (truth alone triumphs) are sparse. Nowadays, money alone triumphs in gagging mouths and silencing justice.
Nothing can be done about the last generation, simply because it has the word 'last' attached to it, and the word 'present' pales before it. We can count our blessings for the few good men we shared our decades with. The others were lost causes. This generation, however is showing glimmers of hope of turning things around, and the only reason that comes to my mind is education.
Let people blabber about 'lost ethics' and 'paper democracies'. Nothing, and I mean nothing can replace a solid foundation in education. With education comes awareness. An innate sense of right and wrong, of virtue and vice, blossoms with a good education. Judging between things becomes easy and taking firm decisions, a reality.
Talking like this and agreeing is very easy for now, but I hope that ten or fifteen years down the line, almost all of us will have the same zeal and zest we have now, of changing how things are done in the society to what we know is right.
