Time

It has been more than a year since I updated this blog. I don't really know what got in the way. Whether  it is work, writer's block, the gradual descent of humanity into madness, or the largely uninteresting aspect of professionalism, or a combination of all these, or not even that. However, there is no point of crying over spilt milk, or random ideas, to be precise. Over the one and a half years, your socially unsure amateur writer has matured somewhat, taking most of the quirky actions of humanity in his stride, although, still deriving some observations from them.

Remember the article Zombie Culture? The heavy faces, the robotic movement? Well, I might have some explanation for its occurrence. As it is not too obvious from the title, I'll tell you what it's about. Space. No, wait, not space. Yes, time.

No one said life was going to be easy. Life is almost never a bed of roses. Unless you book an over the top honeymoon suite. More often, you find yourself trying to solve a major problem, be it financial, emotional, familial or in programming. As you find yourself trying to get a hint of how to solve it, voila! Two different problems crop up, which might or might not be related to the current one. This sounds all to familiar, right? No, I'm not going to tell you how to solve them, as so many great (and not-so-great) minds have already have. However, I'll tell you about the toll it takes.

Walk with me here. Imagine yourself at the cusp of, let's say, three different problems. One huge and two smaller, minion sized ones. Your mind is swirling, whirlwinds circling ominously, as you navigate through your day to day tasks. The world seems too unfair to deserve your efforts. This is when your humanity wants to desert you. And most often it does. It kills the child in you, who wants to be happy and fun.

If this occurs quite a few times, we lose sight of ourself, and the world. Little do we know that we have a very potent yet unused feature with us. Our time. Problems will always be there, and more often than not, we'd figure out a way to solve them. In the interim, we become restless and hurtful. That would not do us, or the people and things around us, any good.

So, the crux of all this rambling is give your time. "To whom?", you ask? Well, it can be anyone, or anything. Give time to your family, if you've been ignoring their calls. Give time to your good friends, who you last saw a year ago. Give time to your passions, so that you don't feel like a useless piece of rubble (not the word I intended to use, actually, but people are sensitive). Give time to yourself, take yourself out for dinner, or desserts. If its Lasange or Cheesecake, take me along.

In this day and age, with increasing work hours, deafening competition and a general lack of brotherhood, it is very easy to give up. As dear Mr. Kipling says, "If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs and blaming it on you, yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it, and—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!" So, in order to keep your head, you need your wits about you, and a certain calm which is hard to achieve nowadays. Take a long breath. Listen to some music, and by that I don't mean just put on your headphones and press "play". Really listen. The rhythm, the words, the music. Make an amazing dinner for your loved one. Time. That's all you need to cross bridges when you come to them, and end up not burning them. (See what I did there?) The greatest gift you can bestow on anyone or anything, really. Plus, it is also the title of a beautiful song by Pink Floyd.

That's it for today. To what and whom am I giving my time the next few days? The usual. Photography, some great friends, work, my taste buds, writing for pleasure... I can go on, but some of the darker themes coming up would scare people.

Ave, dearies.
